Main
Research Areas of the Laboratory:
Structure Determination
|
Biosynthetic Studies
|
The main field of our
research in this area is elucidation of structures of bacterial
polysaccharides and lipopolysaccharides aiming at better
understanding of structure-function relationships and
classification of important bacteria.

Physico-Chemical Studies
|
Chemical synthesis of complex carbohydrates and other compounds
involved in biosynthesis of carbohydrates has been in the focus of
the laboratory activities from the very beginning. The
interests have been ranging from the chemical synthesis of
mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides and their derivatives to
the use of carbohydrates as the source of chirality in the
synthesis of natural compounds such as macrocyclic
antibiotics. Quite a few new synthetic methods originated
from the laboratory. Learn more...

Along with traditional uses of physico-chemical methods such as NMR
spectroscopy and mass spectrometry for characterization of
"isolated" carbohydrate molecules and study of their
conformations, new approaches are being developed for the
study of intermolecular interactions of carbohydrate
derivatives in solutions. Learn more...
